We all have a story or two to tell. Let’s tell yours.
Definition: Eiri (E-lee) Noun. Rise or to rise.
“To rise onto one’s feet.”
As a Narrative Sex Counselor, I specialize in helping LGBTQIA+, trans, and ethically non-monogamous/polyamorous individuals work through their trauma and transition to the next stage of their lives.
Specifically, I do this by focusing on your stories. Every day, we tell stories about who we are to ourselves, our friends, our family, our colleagues, and strangers. These narratives define who we are at the core of the Self and provide great insight into how we function. While these stories might be true in their own right, they can often become subject to biases and even misinformation.
Where to start?
For example, I had a client who led a successful career as a web designer for a growing startup. Despite objectively achieving a number of her professional goals, she just couldn't find satisfaction in any of her accomplishments. Through our work, we were able to determine her issues stemmed from a childhood and home culture where her mother failed to approve anything she ever did. This created a lifetime pattern of her telling stories to herself about how she would never be good enough. By recognizing this inaccurate story, she was finally able to reclaim her narrative, let go of her shame, and move forward with her life. With her internal and external stories aligned, she was able to pursue a promotion she always wanted and feel at peace for the first time in her life.
The Path
Narrative frictions such as these often occur dozens of times a day. They frequently contain themes as important as our environment, relationships, and emotions. These frictions can cause deep anguish, reopen old wounds, and impede forward momentum.
That's where we come in. We help you restructure these conflicting stories using our clinical perspective, Narrative Therapy.
We accomplish this in a multi-step process. First, we actively and thoughtfully listen, helping you identify narrative frictions. Then we collaboratively work with you to gather evidence about how your stories support and encumber your pursuit of wellness. Finally, we begin the process of reauthoring, where we make conscious alterations to your stories to align them with your lifestyle and goals.
Through this process, we manifest the strongest, healthiest, and happiest version of ourselves, fully prepared to take on the world and whatever challenges it throws.
